singing epiphanies

Myths busted:

  • Long, rounded mouth is "good form"
  • "Big deep breath" is needed - diaphragm support
  • Dynamics related to mouth and breath (aka pressure)
  • Head voice, chest voice, mixed voice are different - and belt is unhealthy
  • "Break" is bad
  • Alto vs soprano - can only be one or the other
  • Singing is natural
When the voice "disappears," so does the effort!

Going wrong allows you to suss out for yourself how to do it right.

Shifts required for success in a specific task does not mean other tasks aren't already successful, they just require less effort.

A big breath needs to go somewhere-- so does a small breath (which is why asperation is bad-- it is an escape of air I need)

In its purest form, "speech quality" is "thick fold"-- thick fold is tough to maintain as pitch gets higher without additional effort and tasks. Cracks are natural!

Confidence comes from the total knowledge we're doing it right.
